Weekend Wedding Packing List
If you're heading to a wedding weekend in the woods, first of all, get excited! There’s something truly special about stepping away from city noise, embracing the fresh air, and celebrating love under a canopy of trees. Whether you're part of the wedding party, a guest, or even the couple, a weekend wedding in the woods has a vibe that’s equal parts laid-back and magical.
That said, it’s not your standard hotel wedding. You’re in nature. You might be on gravel paths, hanging by the lake, dancing under the stars, or sipping coffee by a bonfire in the morning. So, you’ll want to pack with intention, think comfort meets celebration, and a little practicality sprinkled in too.
As a Tennessee wedding venue tucked into the woods with lake views, a barn, and onsite lodging, we’ve seen what people forget and what they’re thankful they brought. So here’s your ultimate packing list for a wedding weekend in the woods, whether you're a guest, part of the crew, or the soon-to-be newlyweds.
The Essentials
Let’s start with the basics you shouldn’t leave home without.
For Everyone:
Toiletries (toothbrush, deodorant, contacts/glasses, skincare, etc.)
Phone + Charger (bonus points for a portable charger)
Any Medications You Need
ID and Wallet
Snacks + Water Bottle
Bug Spray + Sunscreen (yes, even in fall)
If you’re staying onsite, check if the venue provides bedding, towels, or toiletries some do, some don’t. Here at Hidden Springs Venue we provide all you bedding needed.
Wedding Outfits + Footwear Tips
For Wedding Guests:
The Right Outfit for the Terrain: If the ceremony or reception is on grass, gravel, or near a lake, maybe skip the stilettos. Go for block heels, dressy flats, wedges, or boots stylish and stable.
Layers for the Evening: Even in summer, it can get cool in the woods after sunset. Bring a wrap, jacket, or shawl so you're cozy once the sun goes down.
Rain Plan Ready: Check the forecast! Pack an umbrella, raincoat, or waterproof shoes just in case.
For the Wedding Party:
Day-of Attire + Extras: Think robes or getting-ready outfits, backup shoes, extra socks, fashion tape, and emergency stain remover pens.
Backup Outfit (Just in Case): Trust us, mud happens. Having an extra shirt or dress tucked into your bag never hurts.
Venue tip: We always recommend couples add a "what to wear" note to their invite or website. Forest floor + cocktail attire? Guests appreciate a heads-up.
For Onsite Lodging
If you're staying at the venue or nearby cabins:
Pajamas + Comfy Clothes: After a night of dancing and celebration, you’ll want cozy clothes to lounge in by the fire or sip coffee on the porch.
Flip-Flops or House Shoes: Great for showering or walking around the cabins.
Towel + Toiletries: Check with your host if these are provided. If not, throw yours in. All towels are provided at Hidden Springs Venue.
Earplugs / Sleep Mask: Nature is beautiful… but also full of sounds (frogs, birds, the friend who snores in the bunk next to you).
Flashlight or Headlamp: Nighttime in the woods is really dark. Especially helpful for late-night walks back to your cabin or car.
For the Couple
Planning your wedding in the woods? Here’s what we recommend you pack:
Marriage License + IDs (seriously, don’t forget this)
Vow Books / Printed Vows
Day-of Essentials Bag: safety pins, bobby pins, scissors, mints, pain reliever, phone charger, deodorant, etc.
Extra Shoes: You might want comfy shoes or boots to slip on between photos or for the reception.
Snacks + Water: Eat before the ceremony, even if it's just something small!
Cooler with Favorite Drinks
Any Decor or DIY Items: Signs, favors, guest book, etc., organize them in labeled boxes for easy setup.
Bonus Tip: Assign someone (a planner, friend, or sibling) to be in charge of the “stuff” so you don’t have to worry about who packed the guestbook or where the marriage license went after the ceremony.
Fun Extras That Make the Weekend Better
These aren’t required, but they’re the little touches that can make a weekend in the woods feel easy and fun.
Bluetooth Speaker: For getting ready or hanging by the fire.
Games: Cards, board games, cornhole, great for downtime or pre-wedding hangs. At our Tennessee wedding venue we provide many board games, cards and corn hole, but maybe bring your favorites just in case!
S’mores Supplies: If there’s a firepit, someone will want s’mores. At our Chattanooga wedding venue in the forrest we provide all the wood for you bonfires.
Polaroid Camera or Disposable Cameras
Reusable Water Bottle + Coffee Mug: Stay hydrated and cozy!
Notebook or Journal: A sweet way to capture memories from the weekend.
For Outdoor Adventures
If your venue is near a lake, hiking trail, or open space (like ours is!), you might want:
Swimsuit + Towel: For a lake dip or hot tub session
Hiking Shoes or Trail Sneakers
Sunglasses + Hat
Small Backpack for Daytime Adventures
Insect-Repellent Wipes
Some couples even plan lake day hangouts or guided hikes during the weekend, so come prepared for more than just the ceremony.
