Wedding Vendor Tipping Advice

Planning a wedding is a whirlwind of decisions, contracts, and expenses. One thing that often gets overlooked until the last minute is tipping vendors. As a wedding venue, we’ve seen it all: couples unsure of who to tip, awkward moments when someone realizes they forgot cash, and even vendors who have gone above and beyond but didn’t get the appreciation they deserved.

So, let’s break it down. Who do you tip? How much? And what’s the best way to do it? Let’s make this stress-free so you can enjoy your big day without any tipping-related hiccups! At our venue we go for the stress free experience for both you and your family, so everyone can enjoy the day. So let’s go over wedding vendor tipping advice.

Who Should You Tip?

Not every vendor expects a tip, but some definitely do. Here’s a general guide based on what we’ve seen at our wedding venue over the years:

Vendors You Should Tip:

  1. Catering Staff & Bartenders

    • These folks are hustling all night, making sure plates are full and glasses are never empty.

    • How much? 15–20% of the total bill (if gratuity isn’t already included) or $50–$100 per chef/server and $50 per bartender.

    • How? Tip can be added to the final bill or handed to the catering manager in cash to distribute.

  2. Hair & Makeup Artists

    • Just like at a salon, tipping is expected here.

    • How much? 15–25% of the total service cost.

    • How? Cash is easiest, but some accept Venmo or other apps.

  3. Delivery & Setup Crews (Floral, Rentals, Cake, etc.)

    • These unsung heroes haul heavy equipment, climb ladders, and make everything look beautiful.

    • How much? $10–$50 per person depending on effort and complexity.

    • How? Cash, given directly or through the company.

  4. Wedding Coordinator

    • If they went above and beyond (which most do!), a tip is a great way to say thanks.

    • How much? $200+ or a thoughtful gift.

    • How? Cash in a thank-you card or a personal gift.

  5. DJ/Band Members

    • Your entertainers keep the party going! If they did a great job, they deserve a little extra love.

    • How much? $50–$200 per band member, $50–$150 for a DJ.

    • How? Cash in an envelope at the end of the night.

  6. Officiant

    • If your officiant is part of a religious institution, a donation is usually customary.

    • How much? $50–$200 donation or a personal gift.

    • How? Directly to them or their place of worship.

Vendors Who Don’t Expect a Tip (But It’s a Nice Gesture!)

  1. Photographers & Videographers

    • Tips aren’t expected, but if they stayed late or went the extra mile, a tip is appreciated.

    • How much? $50–$200 per person.

    • How? Cash or a glowing review online!

  2. Florists

    • They typically don’t expect a tip, but if they personally deliver and set up everything, you can offer something.

    • How much? $50–$100.

    • How? Cash or a heartfelt note.

  3. Transportation Drivers

    • Check your contract, sometimes gratuity is already included. If not, tip as you would a taxi or Uber driver.

    • How much? 10–20% of the total cost.

    • How? Cash, handed directly.

Best Way to Handle Tipping on the Wedding Day

Now that you know who and how much to tip, let’s make sure you execute it smoothly!

  1. Prepare Envelopes in Advance – A few days before the wedding, put cash tips in labeled envelopes. That way, you’re not scrambling on the big day.

  2. Delegate the Job – Hand off the envelopes to a trusted person (wedding planner, maid of honor, or a family member) so you don’t have to worry about it.

  3. Check Contracts – Some vendors include gratuity in their pricing, so make sure you’re not tipping twice!

  4. Show Appreciation in Other Ways – If tipping isn’t in your budget, a handwritten thank-you note or a glowing online review goes a long way.

Final Thoughts

Tipping isn’t mandatory, but it’s a kind way to show appreciation to the hardworking people who make your wedding day special. If you’re ever unsure, ask your venue or planner for guidance. We’re happy to help!

At the end of the day, a genuine thank you, a kind review, or a little extra cash can make someone’s day. Happy planning, and don’t forget, your vendors are here to make your dream day come true!
